1.) Share your CrossFit Prototype experience and fitness journey

I have always tried to lead an active lifestyle. I played many sports as a kid, ultimately focusing on lacrosse and playing at UC Santa Barbara. I was born and raised in California, and moved to Massachusetts once my daughter was born in 2007. This was a huge transition for me living in a new state that had real winters, a new job, our first home and my role as a father. I didn’t get back into the gym seriously until 2012, while I have never been the biggest guy I definitely was out of shape and getting back to the gym was long overdue. I was a late night grinder at BSC, head phones in bobbing my head, lifting solo with the occasional “spot me bro” for some heavy bench. Cardio and picking up my heart rate was non existent other than open gym hoops. I had been wanting to try crossfit for awhile but didn’t venture into an affiliate until the 30 day challenge was offered by CFP this past October. After a few elements classes, encouragement from some familiar faces, and establishment of new friendships I knew I was in the right place. My days of chest and tris/back and bis were over…

2.) What is your favorite part about being at CFP?

The people and our determination to work hard together hands down. This is not a cookie cutter gym/box, it’s more than that. Every time I walk through the doors at CFP I know I can focus on a few key elements:  to give my best effort, be better than I was the day before, support and encourage others, and do this all with integrity. At CFP this is a lifestyle.

3.) What are your hobbies and activities ?

Coaching my kids sports teams, playing basketball and soccer in men’s leagues, pretending I can play golf, grilling with family and friends, and eating bacon. I also recently started creating and doing mini WODs with my kids at home.

4.) How has (if it has) CFP helped you outside the gym (in sports etc)?

CFP has helped me live a healthier lifestyle and make better choices. I know there will always be someone bigger and stronger than me, but that’s okay. I’m here to make myself better every day.  I also want to ensure I am around a long time for my family. I am living now and want to make the most of this opportunity and life I was blessed with.

5.) What are your continuing fitness goals to this point?

Continue to improve on some key movements as I grow individually as a crossfit athlete (muscle ups, double unders, olympic lifts). Eventually I would like to move to training at a level where I can begin to do local competitions. Additionally, I would like to focus and work on my endurance so I can one day join my wife in her passion, long distance running.

6.) Favorite Quote

Two quotes from the same individual:

“Grind hard. Shine hard.” & “One of the most important things you can accomplish is just being yourself.”
