I’ve been at CFP since 2014.  Prior to this, I was never a gym person.  I attempted to stay in shape by playing recreational hockey and other intramural sports.  After starting my career as an ER doctor and working crazy night shifts, I found it difficult to find time to play sports.  Then came a family with 3 little girls and time was even more scarce.  My wife Annie was always finding new ways to stay in shape and she found CFP soon after it opened.  I was skeptical to try it for myself but knew that I needed to get in shape as I was getting older and fatter.  I decided to start with the original ‘elements’ classes and was introduced to Coach Brian Z.  I loved his personality and motivation but wasn’t a big fan of him killing me with Burpees (Thanks BZ!).   I walked/crawled out of there after the first 3 sessions wanting to vomit. I then became a punch card member and eventually was coming so often using the card that I believe I could have been named ‘CFP punch card member of the month’.  Fast forward 5 years and the out of shape person who was using at least 2 thick bands for every pullup is now doing Murph vested.  I am definitely in much better shape as a 50 year old than I was at age 40.  And I feel that I’m adding more healthy years for my older self going forward.

2.What is your favorite part about being at CFP?
I like being part of our close knit crossfit community at CFP.  All of the coaches are incredibly motivating, friendly, knowledgeable and really seem to care about everyone getting better and preventing injuries.  And Annie and I have made lasting friendships at CFP that have expanded to outside the gym.  I spend time golfing with other members, going to lunches and dinners, going on trips, bachelor parties and even weddings!

3.What are your hobbies and activities?
When I’m not spending time with my family or working in the ER, I try to unwind on the golf course as much as possible (maybe too much if you ask my wife!).

4.How has (if it has) CFP helped you outside the gym (in sports etc)?
Anything outside the gym that requires cardiovascular stamina or core strength I feel much more confident in doing them.  This may be running, swimming, hiking, biking or trying to bomb longer drives on the golf course!

5. What are your continuing fitness goals to this point?
Continue to hit PRs, maintain what I’ve already achieved and develop more upper body strength. Oh, and to eventually figure out how to breathe while doing double unders.

6. What is your favorite quote?
“The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary” – Vince Lombardi
