Prototype of the Month: Jess Clancy

Fitness has always been a part of my life.  I grew up playing soccer and basketball, field hockey in High School and lacrosse in College.  I started working at Wayside Racquet and Swim Club when I was 15 and enjoyed the free membership while working there for 6 years 🙂 I met Brian Zancewicz in December 2008.  I had just had my first daughter, had just joined BSC, and needed to get myself back is shape so I signed up for personal training.  I quickly learned how out of shape I was!  In the beginning of 2012 (6 months after having my second child) I decided to add small group trainings to my routine in addition to working out with Brian.  This is where I met Mike Collette.  I remember taking my first “CrossFit” class……and hating it!  I was almost in tears and every part of my body hurt!  If looks could kill Brian would have been a puddle on the floor…especially if he said “keep it up, you’re doing great” one more time!  I had paid for the month so I figured I would just suck it up for a month and then never do it again!  Well by the end of the month I was hooked!  That was almost 2 years ago and I haven’t turned away since!  When Brian and Mike told me they were leaving BSC to open their own CrossFit box there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I would follow them.
I came to CrossFit Prototype because of the coaches.  I return four to five days every single week because of the community.  I love the feeling of truly belonging to something and being inspired by the other members. I am NOT a morning person, so the fact that I get up to go to the 6am class three or four days a week means that I truly must love it.
I have two young children with a third on the way, so outside of CFP my hobbies are entertaining my children and sleeping.  I have really learned a great deal about myself and I feel that this has given me a boost of confidence even outside of the gym.  I am learning how strong, both physically and mentally, I really am.  I never thought I would be able to live through a 30 day Paleo challenge…and I did!  There are times I will walk into CFP and take a look at the WOD and think to myself there is no way I can do that….and I find I always can!
My short term goal is to keep CrossFitting throughout my pregnancy!  My goal is to continue to use the same bands for pull-ups throughout my pregnancy and then when I come back to be able to do a strict pull up.  My longer term goal is to keep getting stronger, trying new things, and continue to challenge my body and brain.
