Share your Prototype experience and fitness journey

I’ve always been an active person but never one who liked gyms or fitness classes.  Years ago my sister gave me an Elements membership to Small Town.  I really liked Crossfit but didn’t attend consistently and eventually stopped going. Then I met Mike who convinced me to give it another try.  He helped me figure out what was holding me back (the cardio) and what I love (lifting weights).  Since then,  I’ve done a mix of personal training and classes but during lock-down I reverted to my old attendance habits.  Mike once again stepped in and suggested I join the barbell club.  I did and I couldn’t be happier!  I love lifting with the ladies, the comradery and am looking forward to my first meet (mock for me but I have to start somewhere) this weekend.  I can’t say enough about Coach Joe!  He has helped me focus on technique and has the patience of a saint.  He is a truly amazing coach!!

What is your favorite part about being at Prototype?

The people – the fabulous coaches and supportive members.   I also really love how this gym gives back to the community.

What are your hobbies and activities?

Spending time with my buff husband, my kids and my friends. I enjoy traveling anywhere, eating good food, hiking on Block Island, skiing and gardening.

How has (if it has) Prototype helped you outside the gym (in sports etc)?

It has increased my functional strength,  helped me (sort of) keep up with my kids,  improved my sleep and decreased my stress level.

What are your continuing fitness goals to this point?

To continue to PR my lifts,  do a strict pull up and not break a bone when I fall.

What is your favorite quote?

Short version:  “Be a goldfish.”

Long version:  “You know what the happiest animal on earth is? Goldfish. You know why?  Got a 10 second memory.  Be a goldfish.”
