Share your Prototype experience and fitness journey
I joined Prototype (CFP) the first month they opened. I’d been a “runner” since my early 20s, and I completed the occasional sprint triathlon (with Maria Maynard!). I also participated in the Pan Mass Challenge for about 6 years. Back in 2012 I was a member at BSC trying to gain some upper body strength, and I was curious about the whole crossfit thing. I remember asking one of the instructors there about it when I heard CFP was opening.  Her response was “Crossfit is really for younger people. It’s kind of dangerous and lots of people get hurt so I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for someone your age.” Naturally that made me want in! I started at 2 times a week because I had wasted a lot of money on gym memberships over the years by paying and not attending regularly. However – I was immediately hooked and switched to unlimited after a couple of months. When they started kids’ classes, my son Timmy who was 13 at the time joined too. Turns out he also loved it,  and it was pretty fun to be able to keep up with him for about a month haha! It’s definitely been a family affair for us…my Mom joined when she was about 78, and my husband started doing one on one training about 2 years ago after years of injury and loss of mobility. My next “victim” is my brother!
What is your favorite part about being at Prototype?
The Community and the coaches! Everyone says it, but that’s because it’s a fact. Mike and Brian set the tone from the start and brought on other coaches with the same mind set. The gym is inclusive, fun, and scaleable for everyone including my 83 year old mother. Mike and the team are always adapting and improving things, and they respond to feedback from members. This creates an environment that keeps people coming back. I’ve made so many great friends here from all age groups, and I really look forward to working out. I even experience fomo when I miss a day.  Prototype has definitely been a lifesaver throughout this crazy year. So comforting to know you can count on something to bring joy, consistency and positive mental health during all the uncertainty.
What are your hobbies and activities?
My favorite hobbies and activities are travelling (remember that?), cooking, eating and hiking.
How has (if it has) Prototype helped you outside the gym (in sports etc)?
Prototype has definitely helped outside the gym! I love being able to hike all day for multiple days in a row without getting sore. This also extends to a night of dancing, shoveling snow, jumping in on a 5K or anything that comes up. The workouts at Prototype really do prepare you for lots of life’s activities.
What are your continuing fitness goals to this point?
I’d like to stay consistent, not lose strength and maybe string some toe to bars one day!
