Prototype of the Month: Dan McCarthy

A prototype of the month certificate for dan mccarthy

Share your Prototype experience and fitness journey

My Prototype experience was probably like everyone else…  I’d drive by the gym, craning my neck every time to see in through the windows thinking about how much I wanted to do join but – insert lame excuse – and I would keep on driving.  It wasn’t until my feet took me in.  I hadn’t done any research, any internet snooping, nothing.  My feet just took control and brought me in.  Together, they and I met Mike.  His genuine interest in getting me back in shape, along with the vibe of the gym, made it feel like I belonged there!  The environment felt so normal. I felt no apprehension, no second guessing of myself. I was amongst my people!!  (It was between classes and a few people were comparing WOD strategy, someone was trying not to sweat too much on the folding chairs as he changed his shoes, Jeremiah was holding court talking to no one and everyone about last night’s debauchery, music was bumping lively.)

What is your favorite part about being at Prototype?

The best part of Prototype is the community, the CFP family.  Plain and simple!

What are your hobbies and activities?

Family, work, CFP and music are my hobbies. I love electronic music! You’re never too old to rave!!

How has (if it has) Prototype helped you outside the gym (in sports etc)?

Being included in such a positive community as Prototype, in general, I feel more optimistic, more positive.  I am less negative and sour.  I mean, how can one be bitchy after spending just a minute with Brian?  How can one be a hater after seeing a John Collette class adjourn? Am I the only one who feels uplifted after talking with Leah?  Hearing about people’s accomplishments, in and out of the gym, is a great energy.  All of these, and countless other details, make CFP addicting!

What are you continuing fitness goals to this point?

If I have one legitimate fitness goal, it is to not burn out.  When I was another guy, in another world a lifetime ago, my typical fitness shelf-life lasted two months.  I would hit a gym, work out, get bored and bail.  I think the difference with this go-around is, well, everything is different!

What is your favorite quote?

“Hunger makes the best sauce”.  My grandfather used to say it about sitting down to a meal but it can apply to just about anything.

Tim has been an incredible part of our community — always positive, funny, generous, and willing to help. His energy makes everyone around him better. Prototype of the Month is well deserved! Below he answers some questions about his time at PTS. 1.) Share your experience at Prototype This actually isn’t my first stint at Prototype - I’ve been around and worked out here a few times in my heyday. My very first legitimate class though, as a member, was 5am earlier this year and I was welcomed first by Nicole. You can all imagine how that interaction went… and I came back! Prototype is welcoming, fun, clean, and I’ve made amazing friends along the way. It is one of the best hours of my day. 2.) What is your favorite part about being at Prototype? Prototype is not just another workout but a mental reset for me, it fills my cup. 3.) What are your hobbies and activities? Activities mostly involve time with my family outside whenever we can, trips to Ptown and traveling all over for work. I have a hard time sitting still and typically keep a busy schedule. Mix in photography and interior design opportunities with fitness and family and I’d say that's my perfect mix. 4.) How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? I work remotely so in person face to face conversation is something I’ve found I need for my mental health. I’m also super competitive so I tend to push a little harder when I workout with others. 5.) What are you continuing fitness goals to this point? I want to be a parent who can show up for their kids in every aspect of life, which also means physically. Staying fit is important to be able to keep up with them as we collectively get older. I am training for a few Hyrox races coming up but mostly just trying to maintain my current level of fitness for as long as possible. 6.) Favorite Quote “There is only one success - to be able to live your life in your own way” -Fortune Cookie
